The early picks were made from celluloid, which was great because it was cheap and sounded a bit like tortoise shell. However, it breaks and wears down easily. It got an upgrade sometime mid-century to Delrin but more could be done, and JD spent over a year developing a refined delrin material specifically for guitar picks. The new delrin has a grippy, matte finish and ‘aggressive’ attack, it has great memory and is hard-wearing - it’s called TORTEX - always in capitals!
